• Image of The Observers

The Observers is a conceptual piece that uses numbers representing data to depict the scene of an astronomical event in which two birds are the observers. Data is our sole source of evidence for events that we can not directly observe in the universe. Whether it is a distant cosmic scene or the biology on earth, data aids our understanding and helps formulate an "image" of the Universe.

The birds, composed almost entirely of large white numbers, are highlighted with constellations of stars and are set against a field of infinitesimal black numbers. Energy and numbers erupt in the background as the birds look on.

The original drawing was completed with charcoal and conte crayon with stars later added in white ink.
